The Pegasus theatre community were very much involved in the works of Art, commissioned by the Arts Council, as part of the theatre’s capital re-development plan. A series of open public workshops run by Sanderson Sculpture, involving wire drawing and printing techniques were undertaken, with all the participants creating a print of their own to take home and the final creations hanging in many parts of the theatre. A competition was held to design the bike rack, which is prominently located to the front of the building. Local school girl, Alex Beatty, won – her penciled design based upon her love of rollercoasters which was realized by Sanderson Sculpture, from steel tube and numerous bike chains.
For the Pegasus Theatre project, Sanderson created a series of indoor and outdoor works, all in the same ‘vein’, following the delicately coloured roundels and branching tree-forms. The entrance gates, planters, and 7 meter high central foyer tree, all bore the circular metaphoric fruit, which latterly inspired the graphical branding of the whole theatre.
